What you'll experience

A guided walk in daylight, at conversation pace, stopping at the exteriors used in the film. At each stop the guide sets up the scene, points out what the camera saw and what it hid, and leaves time for photographs. Several of the houses are private homes; you look from the sidewalk and the guide will say so.

Expect the group to be mixed: families with children who know the lines by heart, couples on an October weekend, and a few who have never seen the film and are along for the walk. The route is on public sidewalks with curb cuts at most crossings, and there are no stairs to enter anything because nothing is entered. Brick pavement is uneven. If distance on foot is the concern, the self-guided audio tour covers the town at your own pace and can be driven.

What you should know

This walk is the most popular thing on this site in October and the first film walk to sell out; book it before the haunted walk, not after. Several stops are private homes, and the guide will ask you to stay on the sidewalk and keep voices down. Dogs and strollers are allowed on the route itself; the listing states its own policy.

Rain: the walk runs, umbrellas are fine, and the houses look better wet. Cold: October afternoons turn quickly after the sun leaves the street; one layer more than you think. Photography: everything on the route is exterior and public, so photograph freely, but do not open gates.
