Hammond Castle & Salem Private Day Trip
from $157 · no rating yet
Private, so it rarely collects reviews. Fine if you want your own guide and the castle; the record says nothing either way.
Salem Ghost Tour/Prices
A guided ghost walk in Salem starts from $120 per adult and most evening walks sit between $29 and $36. Day trips from Boston, workshops and private tours cost more because they include more than the walk. Every price here is a from price: the listing sets the final figure by date and group size.
the short answer
For one evening, budget $60 for two people on a stories walk. That buys the tour most people mean, from the pick below.
Book the pick · from $30six bands of the market · sorted by floor, from the data
Bar = the tier's range. Left edge is the cheapest tour in it, right edge the dearest. Tiers sort by their floor from the data; neighbours have swapped before.
1 tour · not a walk
A recording and your own feet. No guide to ask, no time slot to keep.
21 tours
A guide and a group, ninety minutes or so on foot: stories after dark, the record in daylight, or the film sites. The tour most people mean.
2 tours · after dark
Bars between the stories, or equipment in hand. You pay for what is added, not for better ghosts.
4 tours · not a walk
The coach both ways and a guide for the day. Compare it with a Salem bed plus a walk, not with a walk alone.
4 tours · not a walk
Materials or a studio hour, indoors. The only tiers that work in the rain.
2 tours · not a walk
A guide to yourselves, on foot or with a car. Sets the ceiling of the market; splits well between friends.
Six tiers cover every tour in Salem. The cheapest is a recording and your own feet; the dearest is a guide to yourself for a day. Most people buy the second tier, a guided group walk, and most of what costs more is not a better walk but something added to it.
Two things move a Salem price more than anything else. The first is October: the same walk that runs mid-week in May can double on a Saturday near Halloween, and the cheap slots go first. The second is what is bundled. A pub crawl includes a drink or two, a ghost hunt includes equipment, a day trip includes the coach and the guide for the whole day. Compare the walk to the walk; compare the day to the day.
Take two adults arriving in the late afternoon and leaving on the last train. The walk is the fixed cost; everything around it is optional, and the receipt shows which is which. Museums and the Witch House are daytime; if you want them, arrive earlier or come back tomorrow.
If the total looks steep, the cheaper walk in the same band saves the difference without changing the evening. If it looks low, the pub crawl adds bars and a later finish, and is the only line on the receipt that replaces dinner.

who is paying · pick one, no script needed
One person pays the adult fare and nothing else. Two pay twice and share a pub crawl if they want one. A family pays child fares where the listing has them and loses the pub crawl entirely. A group of friends pays the most in total and the least per head, because private walks split.
One adult fare, no add-ons. A group walk is the cheapest guided evening and the easiest to join alone; the pub crawl is the sociable version for a little more.
| Stories walk, one adultSalem Night Tour · the fixed cost | $30 |
| Train from Boston, returnonly if you sleep in Boston | $10 |
| Evening total | $40 |
Two adult fares. A pub crawl replaces the walk and dinner at once and is the usual upgrade for a couple; the cheaper walk saves the difference without changing the evening.
| Stories walk, two adultsSalem Night Tour | $60 |
| Pub crawl instead, twooptional · replaces walk and dinner | $80 |
| Evening total | $140 |
Child fares where the listing has them, and no pub crawl at all. The stories-and-history walk is the one most families take; the Hocus Pocus walk is the daylight alternative if the ghosts are too much for the youngest.
| Walk, two adultsHistory and Hauntings | $72 |
| Broom workshop before, fouroptional · the rain plan | $270 |
| Evening total | $824 |
The most in total and the least per head. From about $240 people a private walk costs less per person than the group fare, and you set the start time; the pub crawl is the alternative if you would rather not organise anything.

what the money buys, tier by tier
A guide is included in every tier but the first. Transport is included only from Boston. Drinks are included only on the pub crawl, and a broom only at the workshop. Everything marked as an option costs extra on the booking page, and that is where most of the gap between tiers comes from.

Tips, museum tickets and parking are never in the fare. Budget a tip for the guide on any group walk, buy museum tickets separately and in daytime, and if you drive, count the garage as part of the evening. None of these are sold on this site.
Tipping is customary on group walks and built into private ones; the guide will not ask. Museums, including the Witch House, close before the evening walks begin, so a museum ticket is a daytime decision and belongs on a second day or an early arrival. Parking downtown is metered by day and garaged by night; on October weekends the garages fill by mid-afternoon and the streets around the common close, which is one more argument for the train or a Salem bed.
Every price on this site is the lowest adult fare the listing offers on any date. Children, seniors and students are often cheaper; Saturdays in October are almost always dearer; private options multiply the figure. We write from because writing anything else would be wrong on most days of the year, and we never put a price in a page title for the same reason.
The booking page shows the exact figure for your date before you pay. If it differs from the from price here, the date is the reason, not the tour.

price does not buy rating
The most expensive thing in Salem is a private day with no reviews behind it. The walk with the strongest review record costs about as little as a guided walk gets. Pay more for what is added, never for a better score.
A guided evening walk starts from $25 per adult; most fall between $29 and $36. Pub crawls, ghost hunts and extended walks cost more because they include more.
The price ladder →Yes, on weekends especially. The same walk can list at a different from price for a Saturday near Halloween than for a Tuesday in May, and the cheap slots go first. Book October dates early.
Salem in October →Yes. Every comparison table on this site has a row called Walk it yourself, free, with the route the tours cover. You lose the guide and the stories, which is most of what a ghost tour is.
The free row →Usually less, and the listing sets the age bands. Pub crawls are adults only. The booking page shows the exact fare for your group before you pay.

History and Hauntings is the cheapest guided walk we list and among the best supported by reviews. If price is the question, this is the answer; if you want more theater for a little more, the Night Tour is one band up.
